Return & Refund Policy

The Sub Space Boutique

Effective Date: April 29, 2026

The Sub Space Boutique does not operate like a mass retail shop. We craft heirloom-grade discipline tools, limited works, and related provisions for intentional use, ritual structure, and long-term ownership.

Every commission, Ledger piece, and provision is handled with care, recordkeeping, and clear standards. This policy exists to protect the client, the House, and the integrity of the work.

1. Custom Commissions

Custom commissions require payment of the Full Build Price at the time the Build Record is submitted through the Tool Builder or approved commission path.

This payment is not a deposit. It is the full commission payment required to begin the House process, reserve bench capacity, allocate materials, and prepare the work for review and release.

A custom commission may include, but is not limited to:

  • Full paddles
  • Slim paddles
  • Half paddles
  • Consequence canes
  • Course Correction canes
  • Handle wraps
  • Engraving
  • Fractal work
  • Edge treatment
  • Finish oil selection
  • Custom wood selection
  • House-level design work
  • Any client-specific build direction

2. House Review Before Bench Release

After a Build Record is submitted and paid, the House reviews the commission for:

  • Build clarity
  • Material compatibility
  • Tool suitability
  • Safety concerns
  • Scope control
  • Bench capacity
  • Conflicts with House Terms
  • Requests that are unlawful, abusive, unsafe, or outside the standard of the Boutique

The House reserves the right to refuse or cancel any commission that does not meet these standards.

If the House refuses a paid commission before bench work begins, the client will receive a refund to the original payment method.

3. Cancellation Before Bench Work Begins

A client may request cancellation before the commission is released to bench work.

A cancellation may be eligible for refund only if:

  • The House has not begun material acquisition for the commission
  • The wood has not been cut
  • No custom design, engraving preparation, sourcing, or production labor has begun
  • The commission has not been released to the bench

Once any of those actions have begun, the Paid Commission becomes non-refundable.

4. Non-Refundable Custom Work

Custom commissions are non-refundable once the House has begun any of the following:

  • Material sourcing
  • Wood selection or acquisition
  • Cutting
  • Shaping
  • Drilling
  • Sanding
  • Engraving preparation
  • Fractal preparation
  • Finish work
  • Handle wrapping
  • Custom documentation
  • Bench release
  • Any client-specific production step

Custom work cannot be returned because it is built for a specific client, specific tool direction, and specific commission record.

5. Changes to a Commission

Changes may be requested before bench work begins, but they are not guaranteed.

Approved changes may require:

  • Additional payment
  • Revised build notes
  • Revised production timing
  • Updated material review
  • Updated engraving or design approval

Once production has begun, changes may be refused if they would compromise the tool, delay the bench, or disrupt the integrity of the build.

6. Finished Ledger Pieces

Finished Ledger pieces are limited, completed works offered as-is.

Because these pieces are handmade, finished, documented, and often one-of-one, all Ledger sales are final unless the item arrives damaged or the wrong item is sent.

Natural wood variation, grain movement, color depth, mineral streaks, burn pattern variation, handmade finishing marks, and minor visual differences are not defects. They are part of the character of handmade woodwork.

7. Provisions and Care Goods

Unused and unopened provisions may be eligible for return within 14 days of delivery.

To qualify:

  • The item must be unused
  • The seal or packaging must be intact
  • The item must be in resellable condition
  • The return must be approved before shipment back to the House

Opened, used, damaged, or altered provisions are not eligible for refund.

The client is responsible for return shipping unless the wrong item was sent or the item arrived damaged.

8. Damaged or Incorrect Orders

If an item arrives damaged or incorrect, contact the House within 72 hours of delivery.

The client must provide:

  • Order number
  • Clear photos of the item
  • Clear photos of the packaging
  • Description of the issue
  • Photos of any shipping damage

Do not discard the packaging until the issue has been reviewed.

After review, the House may offer one of the following:

  • Repair
  • Replacement
  • Partial refund
  • Full refund
  • Shipping claim support

The remedy will depend on the nature of the issue and whether the damage occurred in transit, production, or handling.

9. Shipping Issues

The Sub Space Boutique is not responsible for delays caused by the carrier after an order leaves the House.

This includes:

  • Weather delays
  • Carrier routing delays
  • Incorrect addresses entered by the client
  • Failed delivery attempts
  • Package holds
  • Theft after delivery confirmation

If a package is marked delivered but cannot be located, the client must contact the carrier first and then notify the House with the claim information.

Incorrect shipping addresses may result in additional shipping charges.

10. Refused or Returned Packages

If a package is refused, returned to sender, or undeliverable because of an incorrect address or failed delivery attempt, the client is responsible for any additional shipping costs required to resend the order.

Refunds are not guaranteed for refused or returned packages.

Custom commissions remain subject to the non-refundable custom work standard.

11. Hygiene, Safety, and Use

Discipline tools are handled as personal-use implements once delivered.

For safety, hygiene, and integrity reasons, used tools cannot be returned.

The House is not responsible for damage caused by:

  • Misuse
  • Improper storage
  • Excessive moisture
  • Heat exposure
  • Unauthorized modification
  • Improper cleaning
  • Neglect
  • Use outside the intended purpose of the tool

Care instructions should be followed to preserve the tool.

12. Refund Processing

Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method.

Processing time depends on the payment provider, bank, or card issuer. The House cannot control bank processing times once a refund has been issued.

Shipping fees may be non-refundable unless the return is due to House error or confirmed shipping damage.

13. Final Authority

The Sub Space Boutique reserves the right to refuse returns, refunds, cancellations, or exchanges that conflict with this policy, the House Terms, or the integrity of custom work.

We do not craft disposable objects.

We build tools of consequence.

Not kink. Discipline.
